
Cleveland Orchestra has the new assistant conductor. The orchestra announced the appointment of Vinay Parameswaran on Monday to the spot currently held by associate conductor Brett Mitchell, who departs with the orchestra this summer to become music director of the Colorado Symphony.
Parameswaran officially takes up two-year post in the August, with the commencement of 2017-18 season of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, of which he will be the music director. He will also assist the music director Franz Welser-Most, serve as cover conductor at the Severance Hall and Blossom Music Center, and play an active role in the community concerts, among many other duties.
Parameswaran "offers the kind of excellence, musical understanding, enthusiasm, and collaborative spirit that exemplifies the Cleveland Orchestra as an institution," said Mark Williams, the orchestra's chief artistic officer, in a written statement. "His commitment to young people and fostering their interest in music is exceptional."

It is fitting that Parameswaran's duties in the Cleveland center on COYO. As a student growing up in the California's Bay area, the conductor has spent six years in the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra.
Prior to his appointment in the Cleveland, Parameswan spent three seasons as a assistant conductor of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra. He also has guest conducted orchestras in the Rochester, Tucson, Milwaukee, Jacksonville, Eugene, Vermont, and Washington, D.C.
Parameswaran holds degrees in music and political science from the Brown University. He also earned a diploma from Curtis Institute of Music in the Philadelphia, where he conducted productions with the Curtis Opera Theater. Also, he is the conductor on the recording "Two x Four," with the violinists Jaime Laredo and Jennifer Koh, which received a Grammy Award nomination in the year 2014.
